I fancy a Samsung Series 7 NP700G7C. Is it the best for its
price or is there better? I want a fast high-end laptop with lots
of memory and good gaming.
Andy Savage, on email
GG
The Series 7 is good, but look out for
the new Samsung Series 7 Chronos de-
vices if you have made up your mind.
If you are okay with an Ultrabook, the Series
9 is sleek and very powerful. But it does not
come with an optical drive. If you want a reg-
ular laptop that can handle gaming, I suggest
the Lenovo Ideapad Z580. Not very expen-
sive, but then very powerful and lots of mem-
ory. If you want a proper gaming laptop, then
consider the Asus G75VW which can
give even the Alienware
a run for its money.
NOT LARGE ENOUGH
Apropos the cover story,
Giants of the
phone world
, (G&G March 2013), I
would like to make the point that
though the screens of these 'giant' mo-
bile phones are bigger they are not big
enough to watch TV on. Even watch-
ing online video and reading posts is a
strain on the eyes. In fact, while watch-
ing a movie on a mobile phone I find it
difficult to even identify the charac-
ters. These devices will only spoil the
health of users, especially teenagers.
MAHESH KAPASI, NEW DELHI
I want to buy a new phone and my
budget is up to `21,000. I have de-
cided upon a refurbished Samsung
Galaxy SII which is available online
for `20,999. It comes with a six months
warranty from Samsung. While this looks
like a good deal, do you recommend any
other phone. The HTC 8S looks great, but
do you see the Windows Marketplace grow-
ing and will the OS remain relevant as I will
keep the phone for two years. Also there
are reports of the SII Plus being launched
shortly and that it might be priced at
`20,000 in India so should I wait ?
Prashant, on email
GREAT VIDEOS
I have been a regular reader of
G&G. I would like to congratulate
you on the shift to digital and the
value-addition that it is giving to
readers like me. I especially like the
product videos, which are like read-
ing your reviews, but in a minute.
SUPRATIK BHATTACHARYA, CHENNAI
GG
Instead of spending your money
on a refurbished Samsung Galaxy
SII, the new Samsung Galaxy
Grand is a better option. It has a 5-inch
capacitive touch display with a dual-core
processor onboard. The performance of
the Grand is impressive and you get ac-
cess to all the apps listed on the Google
Play store.
